Alpine Electronics Supports NHF’s Team Hemophilia on Tour

News Brief
May 22, 2008

Alpine Electronics returns for the 2008 IndyCar Series as a sponsor for Andretti Green Racing (AGR).  Alpine is paired for this season with driver Tony Kanaan and his car #11.  This is Alpine’s second year with Kanaan and the fifth overall with AGR.  Kanaan placed third in the 2007 final driver standings, and was the 2004 IndyCar Series champion.  Kanaan finished second in the most recent IndyCar Series race, held on April 27 in Kansas City.

Alpine’s AGR sponsorship includes featuring the Alpine logo on the download port area of Kanaan’s #11 car.  The IndyCar Series consists of 16 races and wraps up on Sept. 7 in Chicago.   Tony visited Alpine’s Indianapolis office on May 12 and will make stops at the company’s Torrance, Calif., headquarters and Detroit office during the racing season.

Alpine is also supporting AGR’s charity partnership with the National Hemophilia Foundation’s Team Hemophilia.  Backed by Bayer HealthCare, a fellow AGR sponsor, Team Hemophilia raises money and awareness for the bleeding and clotting disorders community.  Team Hemophilia will be touring the country with members of its National Youth Leadership Institute.  The youth leaders (ages 18 – 25) will cross the country and attend six IndyCar Series races in a tour bus outfitted with a complete Alpine audio/video plus navigation (A/V + N) system.  The Team Hemophilia tour started on May 19 and is making its first stop at the Indy 500, with the group participating in local media appearances, visiting hemophilia treatment centers and offering youth programs.

“Alpine partnered with Andretti Green Racing again this year because we share similar values in the work we do.  We both set high standards to deliver the best quality, whether that be premium mobile electronics systems or superior drivers and race cars,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics.  “As well, Andretti Green Racing introduced us to Team Hemophilia and we are proud to work with The National Hemophilia Foundation for this important road tour.”

“Alpine continues to be a great partner with Andretti Green,” said Michael Andretti, co-owner and chairman of Andretti Green. “We are fortunate to have had a long relationship with them and hope to enjoy much more success with them in the years to come.”

The Team Hemophilia on Tour bus took its message on the road this year. Members of the National Hemophilia Foundation’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI) boarded the bus with its racing flag colors to travel from coast to coast, meeting with chapters to lead youth programming activities, and getting involved in race day bleeding disorder awareness events.

NHF salutes all those who participated in the awareness and fundraising campaign in 2008. Stay tuned for news about Team Hemophilia on Tour’s new direction in 2009.

————————————————————————————-

Team Hemophilia on Tour is an innovative initiative to raise awareness of bleeding disorders throughout the country, while raising funds to support programs sponsored by the National Hemophilia Foundation. NHF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI), 18- to 25-year-olds with proven leadership skills, will go the distance as they board the Team Hemophilia tour bus and spread the word about bleeding disorders en route to six IndyCar races. The tour kicks off with the 92nd running of the Indy 500 on May 25, 2008, and ends with the PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300 at the Chicagoland Speedway on September 7, 2008.

NYLI members will travel to race sites via tour bus and leverage the popularity of the IndyCar Series, as well as 2006 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year Marco Andretti, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL star Chris Hovan.

The bus will serve as the focal point for the tour as the young adults from NYLI take their message on the road, stopping at NHF chapters in the race cities and along the way to help with programs on awareness, prevention and youth activities. NYLI members have fundraising pages, encouraging supporters to make donations in support of their cause. During each leg of the race, tour participants will communicate via a blog, sharing their insights, experiences and discoveries.

All proceeds raised by Team Hemophilia on Tour will support the National Hemophilia Foundation and its local chapters through the following programs:

  • Research for better treatments and to find a cure
  • Advocacy and public policy
  • Education and programs for families with children who are newly diagnosed with a bleeding disorder
  • National prevention programs
  • Summer camps for children with bleeding disorders

Be part of a winning team—Team Hemophilia on Tour. The team that races to win and wins to raise funds for people living with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

Team Hemophilia Races for NHF

April 2007 - eNotes, the official newsletter of the National Hemophilia Foundation

The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) has teamed up with Andretti Green Racing (AGR) and Bayer HealthCare to create Team Hemophilia, a new hemophilia fundraising and awareness campaign, at race tracks across the country. The campaign kicked off on March 24, 2007, with the first race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, will pick up speed with the 91st running of the Indy 500 in May and finishes with the last race at Chicagoland Speedway in September.

Race fans support the cause by bidding for special race packages at eBay’s online auction site. The packages contain exclusive behind-the-scenes AGR hospitality passes, pit credentials, and the opportunity to meet and greet AGR drivers. The VIP Race Weekend and Ultimate Indy 500 Race Fantasy packages contain round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations for two guests. Chapters can get involved by auctioning off race packages for races in their vicinity. All of the proceeds benefit NHF and the local chapters.

AGR drivers featured include some of the top contenders in IndyCar racing—Marco Andretti, second place finisher in the 2006 Indy 500 and Rookie of the Year; Danica Patrick, the newest addition to the team and the first woman to lead the Indy 500; Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan. Andretti appeared at NHF’s 58th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in 2006 for a press conference in which he presented a check for $10,000 to NHF on behalf of AGR and Bayer HealthCare. He signed autographs and took photographs with fans.

Marco Andretti will continue working with the National Hemophilia Foundation, a fundraising program sponsored by Bayer HealthCare, to benefit its participating local chapters.

Throughout the 2006 season, Andretti visited with hemophilia community members in cities where IndyCar Series races occurred. He also participated in the hemophilia community’s recent annual meeting in Philadelphia, where he presented a $10,000 donation on behalf of his family.

“I am proud to be a part of Team Hemophilia with the National Hemophilia Foundation and Bayer HealthCare,” said Andretti, driver of the No. 26 NYSE Dallara/Honda/Firestone for Andretti Green Racing. “Bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, are very challenging conditions, and I hope that the funds and awareness raised by Team Hemophilia will help improve the lives of people living with them.”

Chris Hovan Revs Up Support for Team Hemophilia On Tour

Tampa Bay Buccaneer joins National Hemophilia Foundation’s fundraising and awareness program
March 24, 2008 - Andretti Green Racing News

NEW YORK, NY (March 24, 2008) — The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) today announced Chris Hovan, starting defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be moving off the field onto the track as a spokesperson for Team HemophiliaSM on Tour. This program, sponsored by Bayer HealthCare with support from Andretti Green Racing, leverages the excitement of the IndyCar Series and the popularity of driver Marco Andretti to raise money and awareness for the bleeding and clotting disorders community.

“It’s great to have Chris involved with Team Hemophilia on Tour,” said Andretti. “His participation on and off the track will do a tremendous amount to raise support for NHF and bring added excitement to the 2008 racing season.”

This year Team Hemophilia on Tour is hitting the road with members of NHF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI), a program created to foster the development of next generation leaders and help NHF chapters across the country build strong youth programs. These youth leaders (ages 18 – 25) will follow Marco across the country from race to race, participating in local media appearances, visiting hemophilia treatment centers and offering youth programs at local chapters along the way.

“I am proud and excited to join Team Hemophilia on Tour and support NHF’s youth leadership program,” said Hovan. “As a member of the Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida, I know first hand how the National Hemophilia Foundation and their 48 local chapters are changing lives. Team Hemophilia on Tour is a great way to raise awareness about bleeding and clotting disorders while also supporting these extraordinary young people. I’m really looking forward to working with AGR and their sponsors to make this a unique and successful program.”

Hovan will help AGR kick off the IndyCar Series season by participating in an S2000 Parade Lap prior to the Honda Indy St. Pete during Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg event weekend. Throughout the year, Hovan will also be involved with helping to gain sponsor support, in media interviews, public service announcements, and track activities with local patient communities at the Indianapolis 500, Texas Motor Speedway, and Watkins Glen International. This is the first year Hovan has been involved in Team Hemophilia on Tour.

“The National Hemophilia Foundation is thrilled to have Chris’ support and enthusiasm for this very important program,” said John Indence, Vice President for Marketing & Communications, National Hemophilia Foundation. “As someone directly connected to the bleeding and clotting disorders community, Chris is a great advocate for our organization’s youth programs. We are honored that he has agreed to work with us.

Funds raised by Team Hemophilia on Tour will benefit the National Youth Leadership Institute and the local NHF chapters in select race cities.

About Hemophilia
Approximately 400,000 people around the world have hemophilia. Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder characterized by prolonged or spontaneous bleeding, especially into the muscles, joints, or internal organs. The disease is caused by deficient or defective blood coagulation proteins, known as factor VIII or IX. The most common form of the disease is hemophilia A, or classic hemophilia, in which the clotting factor VIII is either deficient or defective. Hemophilia B is characterized by deficient or defective factor IX.

About the National Hemophilia Foundation
The National Hemophilia Foundation is dedicated to finding better treatments and cures for bleeding and clotting disorders and to preventing the complications of these disorders through education, advocacy and research.
